What is PIP?
Personal Injury Protection (PIP) is part of every Oregon auto insurance policy.
It’s designed to make sure you get medical and rehabilitative care immediately after an accident — no matter who was at fault.
Your PIP coverage can pay for:
Medical massage therapy (when prescribed or medically necessary)
Chiropractic or physical therapy
Doctor visits, imaging, and medication
Lost wages if you’re unable to work temporarily
Oregon law guarantees this benefit automatically — you don’t have to sue or wait for another driver’s insurance to act.
Your Rights Under Oregon PIP
-
Immediate care without waiting for fault determination
In Oregon PIP is “no-fault.” You can get care right away.
Start treatment as soon as possible after your accident.
-
Freedom to choose your provider
You can select any licensed massage therapist, chiropractor, or physician.
Make sure your provider is licensed in Oregon and is able to bill PIP directly to avoid out-of-pocket costs.
-
No deductible or co-pay
Most PIP-covered care costs you nothing out of pocket.
We will work with you to confirm coverage and limits with your adjuster.
-
Up to $15,000 in benefits per person
Oregon requires at least this amount of coverage for medical expenses.
As you work with licensed massage therapists, chiropractors, or physicians you can contact your PIP adjuster to keep on top of your remaining benefits.
-
Two-year claim window
You have up to two years from the date of the accident to use your benefits.
Keep documentation of treatments and communications.
